Ell Bio Scaffold
Ell Bio Scaffolding is a structural matrix sourced from Wharton's Jelly of the umbilical cord. It acts as a carrier scaffold that anchors liquid biologic products at the injection site, creating a controlled-release framework that supports sustained delivery of growth factors and signaling molecules.
Ell Bio Scaffolding is combined with the chosen biologic at a 1:1 ratio — for instance, 1 mL of scaffolding to 1 mL of Ell Wharton's Jelly, Ell Xosomes, and Ell Muse Cell Duo. Once blended, the two components are administered together as a single product.
The main drawback of injecting Wharton's Jelly extract or exosomes without support is how quickly they clear from the site. Liquid biologics tend to disperse away from the target within hours to days, and unsupported growth factors break down rapidly. Scaffolding counters this by extending local retention, releasing growth factors and ECM proteins in a controlled fashion over weeks to months, offering surfaces for cellular attachment and migration, and contributing mechanical integrity at the repair site.
Hyaluronic acid and platelet-rich fibrin are occasionally used as alternative carriers, but each has notable shortcomings. PRF breaks down within one to two weeks and provides no structural ECM. Hyaluronic acid serves mainly as a lubricant, is enzymatically degraded within weeks, and offers no scaffold to support cell attachment.
